Donald Maxwell Obituary

Donald Paul Maxwell

10/28/1943-03/23/2024

Donald Paul Maxwell, 80, of Terre Haute, IN, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on March 23, 2024.  He was born October 28, 1943 to William J. and Maxine Maxwell also of Terre Haute.

Donald is survived by his beautiful wife of 58 years, Kathleen Tomlinson Maxwell, two sons Christopher (Lori) Maxwell and Brian (Christi) Maxwell, two daughters Tiffany Scamihorn and Sonia (Brad) Newman; grandchildren Shelbie (AJ) Reed, Natalie Scamihorn, Cody Maxwell (Katlyn), Wyatt Maxwell, Maxwell Scamihorn, Talan Maxwell, Jade Maxwell, and Chase Maxwell; brother Jim Maxwell, brother-in-law Tom Tomlinson, family friend June Wagner, two nieces, a nephew, and countless special cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Trevor Scamihorn.

Donald graduated from Garfield high school in 1961.  He joined the Air Force upon graduation in 1962 serving until 1965.  He was most proud of his service overseas as a medic.  Upon returning to Indiana, he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University in Industrial Arts. His career was focused on industrial electronics and teaching, retiring from Kirby Risk in 2005. After retirement, Don and his son Brian built his dream home in which he and Kathleen spent the last 19 years.  Don spent most of his free time at his cabin near the Hoosier National Forest, hunting, fishing, and enjoying countless scuba diving trips. But most of all he valued the time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and his friend Jake.  Whether it was playing card games with company at the dining room table, eating delicious meals prepared by his adoring wife, watching the sunrise on the lake, listening to his grandchildren jabber about their lives, loving on his pets Mollie and Poppy, Donald was cheerful and positive even in his last few months.

In honoring Donald’s wishes, cremation has been chosen.  A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at Cross Lane Community Church, 2204 Lafayette Ave, Terre Haute, IN.  Visitation will be from 3-5 with a service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to your favorite charity in Donald’s honor or the Trevor Scamihorn Memorial 4-H Scholarship.
