Erma Coverstone Obituary

Erma Jean Jones Coverstone, age 95, passed from this life on March 6th, 2024. She was born June 19, 1928, in a home west of Universal, Indiana, the eldest child of George W. Jones, Sr. and Phebe Huffman Jones. She was raised in rural Vermillion and Vigo counties for most of her childhood. She was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School. Shortly after graduating from high school, she moved to Terre Haute and attended Terre Haute Business College. While attending business college, she was hired at the Quaker Maid Company in 1948. She worked in the Payroll and Accounts Payable departments. While working at Quaker Maid, she met Harry V. Coverstone. They dated and eventually married on January 19, 1957. She was later employed at Union Hospital in the Central Supply department. She retired from Union Hospital in 1989.

Jean was preceded in death by an infant sister Judy Kay in 1945, her parents, husband Harry in 1996, son Randy Coverstone in 2011, sisters Louanna “Dovey” Harmon (Bill), Dorla Scott (Wayne), brother George “Bud” Jones, Jr. (Sonja), and son-in-law Bradley Milner. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Coverstone Milner, four grandchildren Josey Johnson (Jeremy), Brett Milner, Justin Milner (Kodi), and Elizabeth Milner, and several grant-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Ladonna Fox (Gerald) and Georgia Taylor, and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was a member of the Northside Community United Methodist Church. She had a green thumb and sweet tooth. She enjoyed gardening, propagating African Violets and making fudge. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working crossword puzzles. She was also artistic and enjoyed painting and playing the organ. She will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024, at 12:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 10:00a.m. until service time. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Community United Methodist Church.
