Clarice Annabelle (Wood) Farrand

Clarice Annabelle (Wood) Varvel Farrand, 99, of Terre Haute passed away November 25, 2019 in Union Hospital. She was born March 14, 1920 in Pittwood, Illinois to Clarence Wood and Mary Amanda Griffin Wood.  Clarice retired from Union Hospital in 1983 as a nurse’s aid.  She cared for many over the years. She helped raise her siblings after she lost her parents at a young age.  She raised her children and helped raise her grandchildren, and a nephew.  She also cared for her mother in law for many years.  She loved to travel with her second husband Rolland.  She would collect plates from wherever they traveled.  She loved to crotchet, and do needle work.  She would give her work as gifts to the family.  She was a strong woman, and the back bone of her family. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward L. Varvel (d. 5/11/1961) they were married in 1938, husband Rolland H. Farrand (d. 12/22/1994) they married in 1977, sons; Clarence “Skeeter” Varvel, and Paul D. Varvel Sr., daughters; Anna Belle Hammond, and infant Nancy Varvel, brother; Herbert Wood, sisters; Elanore Rogers, Leona Mann, and Helena Probasco, along with step children, Barbara Fesler, Bob Overton, and Raymond Overton.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Ridge, brother, Everett Wood, grandchildren; Gary Varvel (Brenda), Renee Varvel, Tamara Varvel, Richard Garrett (Sheryl), Kathy Garrett, Terry Garrett (Kathy), Judy McDermott, Paul D. Varvel Jr., Paula Stanton, Bonnie Wells (Doit), Edward Ridge, Michelle Branche, Karla Collester, Kimberly Ridge and Kenneth Ridge.

Services for Clarice will be on Tuesday December 3, 2019 at 1 pm in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804.  Pastor Dennis Ticen will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.greinerfuneralhome.com
