Donald Gamble Obituary

Donald Vern Gamble, 78, of Terre Haute passed away August 27, 2019 in Union Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 10, 1941 in Terre Haute to Vern Gamble and Kathryn L. Harbrueger Gamble. Don was a saved believed of Jesus Christ and was baptized in the Terre Haute Church of Christ. He was a present member of New Covenant Fellowship Church.

Don graduated from Garfield High School in 1959, where he played football, basketball, and was in the marching band. He went on to be a graduate of Indiana State University where he earned his bachelor's degree in Education, a master's of Science, and a Principles License. He was a high school band director at West Vigo, Jasper, and Owen Valley High Schools. He taught music at Chauncey Rose , where he later became a Case Conference Coordinator. This position led to him becoming Dean Students at Chauncey Rose. After retiring as Dean, his love for educating led him to teach music at the Putnamville Correctional Facility and Gibault Children's Services. He also worked as a substitute teacher for Vigo County Schools. He was a member of the Indiana Freemason's and a Zorah Shriner. He was known as the "Counselor" by his friends at the Marine Corp League and the Sandcut Tavern. Don was also an avid Colts Fan.




Don is preceded in death by his parents, and a special son in law, Ted Vaughn. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Webster Gamble, a son, Karl E. Gamble (Amal), daughters; Leane Shewmaker (J.R.) and Lara Vaughn (Bob, Sierra, and Rob) a brother, John Gamble (Donna), grandkids, Ashlen (Kevin), Matthew, Austin, Justin, and the new light of his life, his great grandson, Dax Samuel. Also surviving are sisters in law, Dixie Haag (John), Lisa Klotz, and Lori Hassfurther (Gary), nephews, Mark and Scott Gamble, along with several other nieces and nephews. Special friends, Bill Youman, and Tom Montgomery, and the Lost Creek Legends.

Don was loved and respected by his peers. He was known as a no-nonsense man. Many of his students considered him "more than a teacher" and felt like he impacted their lives for the better. He inspired the minds of many and will greatly missed by the Terre Haute Community.

Services for Don will be Saturday August 31, 2019 at 11 am in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804. Visitation will be Friday August 30, 2019 from 4 pm till 7 pm, and on Saturday 10 am until service time. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park will be scheduled at a later date.
