Edith Jane George

Edith Jane (Purtlebaugh) George was called home by her Lord on May 20, 2019.  Jane was born on July 7, 1933 in Indianapolis to Bush and Grace (Eaglin) Purtlebaugh.  She was married December 28, 1951 to Leon George, deceased.  Jane had many careers in her life some of the most memorable were working for Mr. Wagglehoff at the Indianapolis City Market selling produce, as a telephone operator at Indiana Bell, as owner and beautician of Brush ‘N Curl beauty shop, she supported her spouse through his U.S. Navy military career, and was an avid checkers and Monopoly player.

Jane’s love for God and sharing the news found her delivering newspapers to local women’s shelters, visiting with nursing home residents, calling door- to- door and sharing the Gospel.  She was a member of Golden Rule Christian Church, Eagle Valley Church of Christ and Staunton Christian Church.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Bush and Grace Purtlebaugh, husband Leon George, sister Doreen and husband Walter Barker, grandson Richard A. George, Jr., and great granddaughter Hayley George.

She is survived by her sister Maryrose (Lowell) Scott, sons Leon (Lois) George, Richard George, John George and daughters Laura (Thomas) Fariello, Donna (Frank) Wiram.  Grandchildren are Robert (Merisa) George, Christopher George, David (Joyann) George, Andrew George, Kelly George, Daniel George, Elizabeth Fariello, Nikolas Fariello, Jenna Wiram, and Lisa Wiram.  Great grandchildren include Giavonna George, Devin George, Aidan George, Morgan George, Ryker George, Devon George, Grace Thornburgh, William Thornburgh, and Amira Maw.  Her nephews Rick Moore, Mark Barker and niece Joanna McNally, many great nieces and nephews, and many cousins of the Eaglin family in Madison, Indiana.

Funeral services to be conducted by Greiner Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Tuesday May 28th, 2019 at Staunton Christian Church 10 am-12 pm and service to immediately follow.  Final resting place will be Round Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
