Evelyn Louise Hoke, 96, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 in Terre Haute Regional hospital. She was born January 23, 1922 to John Clarence Vest and Stella Blake Vest in Mineral, Indiana. She worked as a nurse’s aid and care provider for children and the elderly. She was a 3rd generation Mormon, a member of the Honey Creek Ward of the Jesus Christ Church of Latter-day Saints and the oldest member of her congregation. Her son Henry, was her pride and joy. She was very caring, and loved to read. Evelyn kept up to date on current events. She was proud of never needing glasses to read the newspaper, and had all of her own teeth with no cavities. The 1st president she remembered was Calvin Coolidge. She enjoyed cooking and baking cakes. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dallas Hoke, her brother, Roy Vest, sisters; Chloe Lachney, Betty O’field, Geneva Neal, and Inole Stwalley. She is survived by her son, Henry Hoke, of Terre Haute, and several nieces and nephews. Services for Evelyn will be Tuesday April 24, 2018 at 3:30 pm in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804.
