Gene Parker Obituary

Gene A Parker, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 2, 2020 with his family standing by him, after battling Parkinson’s disease.  He was March 26, 1937, and was the son of Leroy and Ramona Parker. Gene is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sherry Parker; sons Greg Barkdull and Chris Barkdull; extended family Kevin Mundy (Anna) and Jason Boyce; grandchildren Devin, Mitchell, and Alex Mundy and Brieoana Boyce; sister Carla McClug and her family; marital cousins Denise and Landen Turner; and sister-in-law Kim Estep.  Gene was a 1955 graduate of Pendleton High School.  The very sociable and talented Arabian excelled as an all-star baseball player, band performer, drama club actor, and advocate member of the Future Farmers of America.  His athleticism ventured further into outdoor sports as golf, fishing, and camping.  He shared many fun loving memories and big heartedness.  Gene is best remembered the comedian of stories and spirited shenanigans.  He was a rooted Green Bay Packers fan and former Wisconsin resident.  Professionally, Gene worked at Ford Motor Company, a Superintendent at TRI in Terre Haute, various bartending jobs, and Bayles Marathon.  He voluntarily served as the Terre Haute Chapter President and Vice President for the Izaak Walton League,  and enjoyed camping for 17 years.  Gene is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lester and Howard Estep and beloved Beagle companion Lady Bug.  The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home with cremation, and no public services will be held.
