Helen Elizabeth Holmes, 95, passed away with her two devoted daughters by her side, after a 14 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on August 16, 1922 to Thomas and Alice Strole. She grew up in New Goshen, Indiana. She married her high school sweetheart, Eugene Beauchamp. He was killed while serving in the World War II effort. Several years later, she met and married Frank Holmes who was the love of her life for 52 years. Helen was witty, fun, feisty, loving, and kind. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was full of life, spontaneous, and never met a stranger. Helen lived life to its fullest. Helen had a creativeness, which manifested itself in a wide range of activities, including painting, crafting, crocheting, needlepoint, woodworking, and sewing. Without a doubt she was known for her famous homemade peanut brittle. At one time she owned a cake decorating business. Whenever she had the opportunity, Helen would spend time outside mushroom hunting, berry picking, and fishing. Some of her best memories were at their cabin, surrounded by friends and family laughing, playing cards, and enjoying company. She and Frank loved to travel but always looked forward to coming home to their family. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. As Helen was heard saying, she lived a wonderful life. She was the wife of Frank Holmes, who passed away in 2003. Helen was the mother to two daughters who survive her, Carol Goff, her husband Jerry, of Terre Haute, Indiana, Janet Farrell, her husband Gene, of Avon, Indiana; the grandmother to Brian Goff (Dedra), Brad Goff (Tracy), Greg Goff (Tonya), Alan Goff (Emily), Heather Hartsock (Mike), and Jenny Farrell; the great grandmother, also known as GiGi, to Alexandra, Patrick, Madelyn, Claire, Lanie, Jillian, Brayden, Carter, Colione, Lawson, Lindsey, Sam, and Evan. She is also survived by her sisters Alice Ann Jeffers and Janet Dible, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 16, 2018, at 1:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. Matt Carver will officiate.
