James L Kempf Jr.

 James Leman Kempf Jr. age 74, of Terre Haute passed away in his residence and went to be with his loving wife Mary on September 19, 2019. Jim was born on October 1, 1944 in Terre Haute to James L. Kempf and Leah L. Kempf. Jim served proudly in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Newman K. Perry from 1964-1968. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star.  He was a member of the United States Navy Memorial. Jim married the love of his life Mary Teresa Keane on October 12, 1968. They were married for 47 years until Mary’s passing. Jim became a Pipefitter in 1968, and was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 for 51 years. Jim was an avid fisherman and loved to bowl. He was a charter member of the Honey Creek Fire Department and served in many capacities, including Assistant Chief and as a Board Member.  Jim was preceded in death by his father James L. Kempf, mother Leah Louise Kempf, and his loving wife of 47 years Mary Teresa Kempf.
He is survived by one son James W. Kempf and his wife Jaime of Terre Haute. Two granddaughters who he was so proud of, Lydia Darlene Kempf and Falon Mary Kempf.    Four sisters, Jacquelyn Norvanis and husband Samuel of Indianapolis, Elsie Padgett of Oklahoma, Virginia Wyant and husband Dallas of South Carolina, and Delores Jackson and husband Claude of Brownsburg. Sister-in-law Barbara Keane McGovern of Massachusetts. And many Nieces and Nephews. If friends so desire, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Regional Hospital Cardiac Rehab and Honey Creek Fire Department.  Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at 1:00p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11:00a.m. until service time.  Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery.
