James Wesley Mcfadden,84,of Terre Haute passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 after a long illness. He was born on May 13, 1934 in Frazeysburg, OH to William H. and Twila (Spring) McFadden. He graduated from Robinson High School and attended the University of Illinois and Indiana State University. Upon completion of his degrees,he became a music educator for school systems in Ohio and Indiana. The majority of his 40-year career was with the Vigo County School Corporation.
From a family of musicians, James enjoyed playing music, especially Jazz. He performed with various bands in Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana. His summers were filled with travel. He and his wife, Judy, visited all of the national parks and most of the Civil War battlegrounds. He enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Lake Michigan with son, Cary, son-in-law, John, and friends, Jim, Jay, and Josh Knoblett.
His family was a source of pride. James often told his adult children he was proud of them and their spouses. He loved and bragged about his grandchildren. He attended many academic, music, and sporting events as well as post graduations and weddings. Before he passed, he was delighted to know he would become a great-grandfather.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles and Richard, and infant daughter,Tina. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy, and his children, Cary (Stacy), Shelley (John) Macdonald, Carmen (David) Ellett. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Kyle McFadden, Alexa (Daniel) Wallace, Tressa and Wesley Ellett, his sisters-in-law, Jane Koenig, Donna Gaultney, and lifelong friends, Dr. James Knoblett and wife, Carol, as well as 14 nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date for family members.
