Joan C. “Higar” Hewitt, 88, of Terre Haute, Indiana, born July 28, 1930, went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2019. The definition of love, joined the love of her life, William Higar, on the day that love is celebrated. Bill preceded her, into the heavenly forever, on October 3, 2007. They were married for 59 years. Joan was a people person, that enjoyed years of crafting in her hobby shop. H&W Gift and Hobby which she co-owned with her sister Carolyn Wilson and followed that with years as manager of the Floral Dept. at Kroger, both here and in Plainfield. More than the arrangements she made, she was even more proud of the girls she trained to follow in her footsteps. Her evenings were filled with Home Ec Club, Bunko, Red Hatters, and her church which she served faithfully, 8th Avenue Baptist Church. More that the activities she enjoyed so much, was her love of family, son Mike and his wife Sue Higar, her grandchildren Kim and her husband Dust Easton, Josh and his wife Jeanette Higar, and Leah an her husband Andrew Kelley. She was also the proud great grandma to 10 wonderful great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Along with the above mentioned she is survived by her younger brother Ray Hoffeditz and his wife Cyrena and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Wilson, and 3 brothers, Cecil “Zeke”, Melvin, and Sam Hoffeditz. A celebration of life will be conducted on March 2, 2019, at The King’s Harvest Foursquare, located at 1801 South Harding Street, in Terre Haute, at 2:00p.m. with Pastor Dennis Leek and Pastor Dick Smith officiating, fellowship beginning at 1:00p.m. and a dinner following.
