John William Moats Sr.

John William Moats Sr., 78, of Terre Haute, passed away November 20, 2019.  He was born in Terre Haute on March 10, 1941 to Merle Eston Moats and Sylvia May Burger Moats.

John worked for Commercial Solvents for over 25 years and retired as the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  For years, he and a group of friends would travel annually to Canada to fish.  John was also a fan of racing and attended several Nascar and Indy car races.  John was above all a proud grandfather of two wonderful granddaughters, Katelynn and Megan.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donnie Moats, and two infant daughters; Jill Ann and Jennifer Jo Moats.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Winders Moats, a son, John W. Moats, Jr. (Pamela), granddaughters; Dr. Katelynn Liebermann (Stephen) and Megan Moats.  He will also be dearly missed by a group of former Otter Creek High School classmates that regularly met for breakfast at the Valley Grill.

Cremation was chosen with a graveside service, prior to burial on Wednesday November 27, 2019 at1 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susie’s Place Child Advocacy Center, 7519 Beechwood Center Road, Avon, IN 46135 or the Vigo County Education Foundation, P.O.
