LaRue Berens Obituary

LaRue A (Waldkoetter) Berens, 82, a long time resident of Terre Haute, IN, died on Jan. 12, 2019, in her residence at Sycamore Manor, 222 S. 25th, after a long illness. She was born in Seymour, IN, on May 20, 1937, to Ray Waldkoetter and Linda (Christopher) Waldkoetter. Her brother, Gene L. Waldkoetter of Green Valley, AZ, is deceased. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doreen Waldkoetter, and her niece, Gale (Waldkoetter) Skaugstad, of Fairbanks, AK, and Nick Berens, a nephew, and Rachel Berens, a niece, of Appleton, WI. LaRue was baptized into the Christian community at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, IN, but later joined the Catholic Church and attended St. Margaret Mary Church in Terre Haute. LaRue married John Berens on August 6, 1990. John died Jan. 10, 1999. John and LaRue taught in the Business School at Indiana State University. She was a member of the Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. She was a member of the Finance Committee and the Parish Council of St. Margaret Mary and was active in the Parish Retirees group before her illness. LaRue loved to play cards, especially Bridge. LaRue chose cremation immediately upon death. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with St. Margaret Mary retirees on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11:00 AM in the Church. Father Dan Bedel and Father Ron Ashmore will preside at the Mass.  Burial will be held after Mass in Calvary cemetery.  Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804, was entrusted with arrangements.
