Larry Cornelius

October 23, 1950 ~ January 21, 2018 (age 67)

Larry Jay Cornelius,  age 67 of Terre Haute, Indiana went to be with our Lord on Sunday January 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born in Terre Haute, Indianan on October 23, 1950. He graduated from Wiley High School in 1968. He then served with the 426th Supply and Services Battalion, of the 1st Brigade Combat Team Team, 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. His service took him to Camp Eagle, of Hue Vietnam, Phu Bai, Vietnam and Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Larry’s service earned him the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  After Vietnam, Larry returned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he continued to serve in the 101st Airborne Division before being transferred to Headquarters Battalion, United States Seventh Army Army of Heidelberg, Germany. After his tour in the Army, he attended Ivy Tech and was employed in the heating and cooling business for many years to support his family. Larry was a very humble, proud and determined man. He considered his large family to be his pot of gold and crowned jewels.


He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn and his five children: Rebecca Dawn Lueken, Barbara Davis (Jeremy), Kristen Hutchins, Stephen Cornelius, and Katie Sharkey (Gabriel). He is survived by his mother, Betty Goucher Cornelius, his sisters: Carol Nasser (George), Linda Cornelius, Debbie Melvin (Joe), Angie Horstman (Ken), and Pam Wright, and his brothers: Bill Goucher (Arlene) and Wayne Cornelius (Kathy).

Larry has 15 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, 2 great nephews and a great niece. His family extended far beyond those related by blood and includes many that he loved and cherished as his own.


Joining him in his final journey is his best friend and faithful companion, Hershey, a chocolate lab that was always at his side.


Please join us for Larry’s Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the American Legion Post #104  located at 2690 Fort Harrison Road, Terre Haute at 3pm.
