Martin Nicosia Obituary

Martin (Marty) Charles Nicosia, passed away July 3, 2019. He was born March 21, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois to Madio Nicosia and Emily Smith Nicosia. Marty’s first love was always music. He was a professional rhythm guitarist. He played with many different bands during the 1960’s, including the Cryin Shames, and the New Colony Six. When he thought he was “too old” to play in bands he worked as a concert promoter and then moved into tour management where he worked with groups such as Little Richard, The Gregg Allmann Band and the Association. It was while working with the Association that he met his second love, soon to be his wife and life partner, Martha Swearingen Nicosia. Leaving the glamour of Los Angeles he moved to Carrollton Georgia, then back to the Chicago area. Here he worked as the Warehouse Manager for Sony Distribution, until he became ill with Cancer. Marty won the original battle with cancer, but after 14 years succumbed to the complications of the cancer surgery, radiation and chemo therapy. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, his sister Kathy Kindgren of Owen, Wisconsin, his brother, George Nicosia and his wife Marlene of Chicago, Illinois, Daughter, Theresa Edwards of Terre Haute, son, Lloyd Edwards of Milton, Florida. Grandchildren; Ryne Goodwin, Madison Edwards, Avery Grace Goodwin. God Daughter and niece Ronda Goessi, God Son and Nephew Luke Milner and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.  At Marty’s request, cremation has been chosen with a memorial service at Peniel United Methodist Church, 9535 North Kennedys Crossing, Brazil, IN. 47834 on Sunday July 28th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peniel United Methodist Church, Terre Haute Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jon Stockrahm, Officer B. Newman, Officer M.
