Mary Lou (Kuykendall) Payton

Mary Lou Kuykendall Payton, 65, passed away Thursday August 8, 2019 in the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was born February 25, 1954 to Richard and Beatrice Kuykendall. After graduating in the first class of Terre Haute North Vigo High School in 1972, she went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana State University.  As a nurse and a mother of two daughters, Mary spent most of her time caring for others. Outside of work, most recently at Westridge Healthcare, she threw herself into her daughters’ after school activities. She was a long time Girl Scout troop leader of troops #434 and #28, was a band mom for the Terre Haute North Patriot Brigade marching band, and helped with costumes and makeup for various theater productions. In what little free time she found, Mary enjoyed crafting, playing games with family, TV marathons, and grabbing some sangria with friends at Castle Finn Winery.

She is preceded in death by her father, Richard Kuykendall.

She is survived by her mother, Beatrice Kuykendall; her daughters Michelle Payton and Kristen (Ian) Hughes; brothers David and Joseph (Debbie) Kuykendall; nieces Heather (Danny) Jennings and Sara (Ben) Chocklett; nephew Luke Kuykendall; great-nephews Alex and Parker Chocklett; a grand-pup and 6 grand-kitties whom she spoiled.

Special thanks to the Intensive Care nurses of Union Hospital and the staff of Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for their kind care, and to Ellen Hughes for everything these last three years Services for Mary will be Saturday August 17 at 4:00pm in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street Terre Haute, IN 47804. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00pm until service time at the funeral home. A private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later time.
