Michael Eugene Armstrong

Michael Eugene Armstrong, 64, passed away July 12, 2019 in his home. He was born January 17, 1955 in New Castle, Indiana to Oville Lindley Armstrong and Juanita Estelle Armstrong. He was a resident of Terre Haute for 24 years. He is a life long member of the VFW 972. He was a decorated Army Veteran. During his time in the Army he earned a master's degree and a physician's assistant certificate. He worked as a physician's assistant with the Army, the Emergency Department, Union Hospital, Regional Hospital, and the Federal Correctional Complex Penitentiary. He graduated from Chrysler High in 1973. He attended Indiana University, then entered the Army in 1976. He married Veronica Nelson (d. 2008) in 1979. He married his second wife Deborah (d. 2014) in 2009. He married Shirley Dunn on June 16, 2019. Michael was very interested in history. He had researched Army, U.S., and Native American history extensively, as well as his own family genealogy.   He loved participating in Civil War reenactments and he was a weapons enthusiast. He enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles, RV camping trips; which would include, hiking, fishing, boating, and gold panning.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Erik Geoffrey Armstrong and daughter in law, Michelle Armstrong, brother, Rickey Armstrong, sisters; Julia Logston, and Evelyn Humbles, and a brother-in-law, Mike Bertram.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dunn Armstrong, son, Silas Armstrong, daughter, Amber Manwaring (Stephen), sister, Vickie Bertram, brother, Robert Keith Armstrong (Helen), grandchildren, Christian, Aiden, and Andrew with one grandchild on the way, and step- children, Priscilla Chavez, Phillip Chavez, Conception Chavez, Madgie Torris, and Jessie Chavez.
Services for Michael will be Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 3 p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Rost will conduct services after the VFW 972 presents military rites. Online condolences can be made at
