Ollie Mae Van Zant Obituary

Ollie Mae Van Zant, 96, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away with her loving family by her side, February 17, 2019.  She was born on November 27, 1922, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Echol Lane and Polly (France) Lane. Ollie Mae was a Christian. She was a strong, brave, and special woman who formed many loving relationships over the years. A very funny lady, Ollie Mae was also an amazing story teller. Even within recent years, she loved to spend time telling stories of the past, and talking with her loved ones. Ollie was always up for an adventure. She traveled to 47 of the 50 U.S. States and internationally to Canada and Mexico. Ollie especially enjoyed playing with, and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing caregiver whose personality overflowed with love and care for others. She loved to stay busy by crafting, sewing and gardening. Ollie Mae will be greatly missed each day and never forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known her.
Ollie Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband William Roy Van Zant; brother Elmer Lane; two half siblings Lester Benton and Marjorie Goolsby; and grandson Mark Van Zant.  She is survived by her children Ronald Van Zant (Dian Phillips) and Vickie Van Zant; grandchildren Tina (Van Zant) Bishop, Jennifer (Van Zant) Jones, Martin Van Zant, and Jill (Dryer) Cody; great grandchildren Bryce Bishop, Nicholas Bishop, Savannah Jones, Ariannah Jones, Wyatt Jones, Jayden Van Zant, Abram Cody, and Levi Cody; half-sister Shirley White. In honoring her wishes, cremation has been chosen, and a celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, March 16th, 2019, 3-7 p.m. at the Blanton House in Danville, Indiana.
