Robert Brown Obituary

Robert Eugene Brown, Sr., 90, a lifetime resident of Terre Haute, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.

Born on November 24, 1928, to Jack OrvilleBrown and Audrey Davis Brown, he had recently celebrated 70 years of marriage withthe love of his life, Edna Orman Brown, on July 9.

Bob enjoyed a deep love of family. Thriving on lively discussion, family conversations remained a highlight, especially with Percy, the family pug, at his feet. He became an avid photographer to record family milestones and travel. Nature also brought him happiness, especially animals and gardening, as instilled in him by his mother. Nurtured by the Terre Haute Boys Club, Bob had become a Golden Gloves champion and sportsmanship award winner, resulting in a lifelong interest in sports, especially boxing and basketball. Yet he was truly joyful when solving a problem orcompleting a project involving team effort and a hard day’s work.

A graduate of Gertsmeyer High School, he retired from Visqueen after 25 years and then worked for the Vigo County School Corporation Maintenance Department for 15 years.

He was a member of Cross Lane Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ida Cooper (Foster), and two brothers, Jack “Bud” Brown (Louanna) and Richard Brown (Mary), his niece Sandra Cooper Pulmane, and nephew Richard Brown.

He is survived by his wife, two sons from Terre Haute, Robert Brown, Jr. (Tammy) and JackBrown (Theresa), and a daughter from Virginia, Nancy Schneider (Jack), also five grandchildren: Jason Brown (Gina), Justin Brown (Olivia), Matthew Schneider (MauraWilson), Jessica Schneider, and Mallory Brown, and seven great-grandchildren: David Brown, Cameron Brown, Dominick Brown, Arden Schneider, Ingrid Schneider, Alex Brown and Alysa Brown. An eighth great-grandchild expected in December was the proud topic of Bob’s last conversation. Survivors also include beloved nieces Patricia Zigler (Kenny), Linda Howard (Dan), Connie Perrelle (Nick), Judy Brown Rexroat, and nephew Donald Cooper(Kelley), his childhood friend’s sons, Bill, David, and Don Alumbaugh, and lifetime neighbors and dear friends, Joe and Carolyn Wilson.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, October 8, at Roselawn, with the Rev. Brett Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or to the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club.
