Ruth (Ray) Reed

Ruth Ray Huntwork Reed passed away March 6, 2018 in Springhill Village Nursing Home. She was 99 years old, born on January 11, 1919 to Marvin Henry and Bertha Armstrong Ray. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands; Lawrence Huntwork and George Reed, her brother, Russell Ray, her two sons; Oscar and Tip Huntwork, and her daughter in law. 

She is survived by her daughter in law, Ann Huntwork, Jan Huntwork, and sister, Maxine Ray Pound,  stepchildren; Sam Reed (Christy) and Susan Reed Chapin (Rick), her grandchildren; Sheri Huntwork Lawson (Jay), Brad Huntwork, Shannon Huntwork Godden (Tom), and Stacey Huntwork Harless (Matt), and numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Ruth taught school for many years, mostly the 2nd grade in Vigo County. She was a member of the Pierson Township Lions Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Pierson Township Home Extension Club, and Blackhawk Community Center. She held offices and was very active in all the above organizations. She was a long standing member with the Blackhawk Community Church.  Ruth will be remembered as a “take charge” person in all her clubs and affiliations, and for always providing her signature chicken and noodles and well loved coconut cream pie.

Services for Ruth will be Friday March 9, 2018 at 1 pm in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47804. Visitation is scheduled from 11 am until service time Friday at the funeral home.  Pastor Jeff Lee will officiate.  Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
