Suse Mahalek Obituary

Suse Ann Bayles Mahalek died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.  She passed away in the same home where she was placed on the doorstep at birth and was lovingly adopted by Robert Thomas Bayles and Agnes Pattison Bayles on September 15, 1925.  Susie was raised in love that went beyond her parents with special aunts, uncles and cousins she loved and admired.

Susie attended Gerstmeyer Technical School and graduated from Garfield High School in 1943.  Susie worked for Merchants National Bank for 42 years before retiring in 1985, holding various job titles throughout her tenure and making many friends and memories along the way.  Susie met and married her life love, William C. Mahalek (Bill) and he precedes her in death.  Bill and Susie had five children, William Charles, Jr (Billy), who died at age 3, James Joseph (JJ), Charles Bruce (Charley), Julie Ann and John Howard.

Susie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor.  She left an impression on anyone that met her and her smile and personality would light up any room.  She enjoyed her family the most, but next to that were her many girlfriends that she loved dearly.  Especially, her card playing and lunch buddies.   She was always up for a road trip to the casino or anywhere for an adventure.  Susie was a very caring and giving person and will be remembered for the love, light and wit she shared with all that knew her.

Susie also spent countless hours volunteering through the Union Hospital Service League as surgery hostess, at Hux Cancer Center and was a past board member.

As a young woman, Susie spent time searching for a Church that she felt close to her Lord and selected the Catholic faith.  She raised her children in this faith and all attended Sacred Heart Church and School.  Most recently, Susie was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Susie is preceded in death by her husband, Bill and sons, Billy and Charley.

Her legacy includes her daughter, Julie Todd (Ron) and sons, JJ (Jean) and John (Kim).  Grandchildren;  Ryan Mahalek, Casey Mahalek, Darrin Mahalek, Jessica Mahalek, Samantha Mahalek, Jamie Mahalek, Michael Todd, Lauren Kelsheimer and 13 great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind special nieces Martha Simpson, Suse Mahalek , Kathy Mahalek and special nephew, Michael Mahalek;  special (granddaughter), Amber Payne and family, along with many other friends and neighbors which are too  numerous to mention, but loved as family.  In addition, Susie leaves behind her precious and loyal companion, Lilly Sue.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her Southern Care Hospice nurses, especially Bonnie Thompson and all in that organization that assisted her and family through this journey (Jane, Lori, Babs and Susan).  Also, the family would like to thank Dr. Vuppala Reddy and Dr. Lawrence Dultz who provided wonderful care throughout Susie’s journey.
