William Porter Obituary

William Lee Porter, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday November 28th, 2019 in his residence. Bill was born in Terre Haute September 15, 1938 to James W. Porter and Olive Johnson Porter. Bill was a Veteran of the US Army serving in the 101st Airborne. He was a member of the Pimento Masonic Lodge and the Zora Shrine Valley of Terre Haute. Bill retired from the US Postal Service after 20 years of service and was the former owner of Froggy’s Tavern in Farmersburg. He owned the first Pizza King in Sullivan Indiana and Porters South Side Auto until his retirement. He loved to race flat track motorcycles and had been able to race at the Daytona 500 and the Alligator Enduro. He had a special place in his heart for all animals. Bill had a wanderlust attitude and was always looking for new places to travel. He had many camping trips, short local jaunts, European excursions and numerous trips to Jamaica with many friends that he would tell stories about on a daily basis. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Mitchell Pullum, a brother, James Porter and his wife Joan Porter and a brother in-law Donald Brown. Bill is survived by his wife Lynn Bassler Porter of Terre Haute, two daughters; Karie Porter Pullum and Jamie Porter both of Terre Haute. He is survived by one son, Dennis Porter and his wife Kristine of St. Louis. He is survived by a sister Mary Lou Brown of West Terre Haute and grandchildren; Wesley Pullum of Terre Haute, Elijah Porter of Bicknell, Adrian Bewley of Terre Haute, April Porter and Trace Porter both of St. Louis. He is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Porter mother of his two daughters as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday January 11, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Idle Creek Banquet Center, 5355 Ryanne Marie Ln. Terre Haute, IN 47802. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for the kindness they gave to Bill and the guidance for the family as we made this journey in Bills life.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to The Humane Shelter of Terre Haute, Heritage Animal Hospital or Southern Care Hospice.
