Andrew "Andy" Thompson Obituary

Andrew Alan “Andy” Thompson, 56, lifetime resident of Terre Haute, passed away unexpectedly on October 27, 2021, in his home.  He was the middle child of Donald Lewis “Don” Thompson and Mary Catherine “Cathy” Mills Thompson, but also their only son.

He attended Sugar Grove Elementary and Woodrow Wilson Junior High schools, graduating from Terre Haute South Vigo High in 1983.  He was accepted into the apprenticeship program through the local IBEW 725 and became a Licensed Electrical Journeyman.  Much of his career was spent with Crown Electric, but he had recently retired to spend more time with his sons.

He absolutely loved being a dad and was so very proud of his boys – Ji Andrew and Jebediah Edward.  He enjoyed spending time with them, taking them to local parks for hikes, to the movies and out to eat.  Especially their favorite restaurant - Red Robin - for bottomless steak fries and root beer floats.  He loved his family and looked forward to monthly Family Gatherings as each person took turns hosting and cooking.

He was an avid Colts fan, but his favorite hobby was driving his Ford Mustang.  He greatly enjoyed instructional and open track time at the Putnam Park Road Course near Greencastle, Indiana.  He was also a member of the Wabash Valley Mustang Club.  He participated in their outings and helped with their Annual Car Show at Collett Park each year.  Upon retirement, he was able to become a CASA volunteer as well and had just finished his training to serve our community in this special way.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his younger sister Manda Marie “Mandy” Stanton; and his beloved nephew, Christopher Levi Morley.

Survivors include his sons, Ji and Jeb, along with their mother Cheri Carman of Spencer; his older sister Sandra Thompson of Terre Haute; his brother-in-law Scott Stanton of Terre Haute; and his niece Stacey (Nick) Held of Terre Haute.  He is also survived by his great nieces, Alyssa Buckallew and Kyra Morley; great nephews, Lincoln Morley and Joshua Held; as well as many cousins, Aunts and Uncles, as well as numerous friends and buddies. Memorial Services are scheduled for Monday October 1, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant 3050 E. Davis Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47802. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Pastor Dennis Tyson and Pastor Rick Swan will be officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers the contributions be made to CASA of Vigo County. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804 was entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.greinerfuneralhome.com
