Art Hagan Obituary

Art Hagan, 86, passed away at home on Sunday, June 26, 2022 with his family by his side.

He was born on February 1, 1936 in Butler, Pennsylvania and graduated from high school in Robinson, Illinois. Art, who was a huge IU fan, attended Indiana University and moved to Terre Haute in 1962.

Those lucky enough to receive a firm handshake and a bright smile from Art were often blessed by his warmth and acts of kindness. These acts were always humble. He never sought recognition because he knew that a person’s self-esteem should never be diminished, rather protected and nurtured. Art’s acts of kindness were many and never bound by judgement of one’s stature or circumstance in life.

Art was a family man through and through. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Art spent lots of time attending community events with his wife, Marylee, and thousands of hours in pools, gyms and on fields being a proud fan of his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s athletic endeavors.

Being a people person helped Art be a successful salesman throughout his professional career. He was known for always going the extra mile for his customers. As a young man, Art served as the president of the Terre Haute Jaycees, headed up the local Goldwater for President campaign, and coached youth basketball teams for many years. Later in life, he delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. He was also an avid golfer who loved watching tournaments once his playing days were over.

Art was known as Papa to his five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and he will be sorely missed at our Sunday family dinners.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Anne Hagan and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Graham and Shirley Robb and Warren and Betty Latimer.

He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Marylee; his daughter and son-in-law, Mara and Allen Hayne; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kathleen Hagan; and his son, Mark Hagan. He is also survived by his grandchildren Madison Minnick(Mark), Casey Lee (Scott), Taylor Huebner (Taran), Matt Hagan, and Kevin Hagan. Art’s great grandchildren are Jack, Lucy, and Ike Minnick; Sadie and Scout Lee; and Allara and Blake Huebner. Art’s family also includes his nieces and nephew Carol Moore (Roger), Bill Robb, Sue Summers (Casey), Mary Hagemann, Linda Trucksis (Brad), and Sally Latimer.

Art, Dad, Papa will be greatly missed by his family and those people who were lucky enough to be part of his life.

At Art’s request, there will be no formal services. His family will gather graveside for their final goodbyes.
