Barbara Butler Obituary

Barbara J. Butler, 91, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior as she passed peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.  She was born on November 23, 1932 in her grandparents' home near Dugger, Indiana.

She led a life full of love, devotion to God, and adventure.  She faithfully played the organ at Seelyville United Methodist Church and World Gospel Church in Terre Haute for over 30 years combined and loved music.  She worked for Columbia House (CBS Records) in Terre Haute, Indiana starting in customer service with the night shift and working her way up to executive secretary to the Vice President, retiring in 1994 after over 30 years of service. She was an avid traveler and helped a friend with a travel agency, going on many adventures all over the world - inspiring a shared love of travel for all of her family.

She moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 2003 and returned to Terre Haute in September 2022 after Hurricane Ian.

Barbara was a loving and devoted mother to three children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  Her family was her pride and joy.  Barbara is survived by two of her three children - Sheila (David) Shorter of Terre Haute; and Dianna (Paul) Clapp of Terre Haute. She is survived by her grandchildren –  Amy Koenig of Terre Haute; Rebecca (Jason) Wray of Terre Haute; Crystal (Brigman) Bell of Franklin, IN; Travis (Karli) Clapp of Westchester, IL; Justin (Stevie) Clapp of Indianapolis; Christopher (Emily) Clapp of Nashville, TN; and step-granddaughter Angie (Tom) Heitman of Indianapolis. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren – Macy Koenig, Will Koenig, and Eliza Clapp.

In addition to her parents, Edwin and Lorene Robson, Barbara was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joanne Butler.

There will be no formal visitation or services, and Barbara will be laid to rest at the Dugger Cemetery with her family. May you joyfully and eternally be with God our Father.
