Benny R. Buis (Rich) 62, of Brazil Indiana passed away at home on August 22, 2025. He was born and raised in Fontanet , Indiana. Born the youngest child to Carrol Judson Buis and Virgel Buis. They proceed him in death.

Rich never had any sons but he had a very special nephew Nathan Buis who was as close to him as any son could ever be. His pet name for Nate cannot be publicly displayed. What one of these two didn’t think of to torment the other the other one did. They enjoyed their time in the woods, hunting and fishing and their time riding motorcycles together.
He also leaves behind a very close and dear childhood friend Donnie Cooper, who moved in with him and helped with tending to the farm animals and helping Rich with every day life after his motorcycle accident. He often said he didn’t know what he would do without Donnie there to help him, and for him to also torment! He always said that Donnie was more like a brother to him than just a dear friend.
Rich is survived by lots of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. He knew and loved them all, but he never said it out loud. They were just supposed to know by how he treated them. If he was giving them hell, they knew he loved them. With the exception of his one little buddy Zachie. Zachie bribed Rich into telling him every time they were together that he loved him. And then bragged to the rest of the family that uncle Rich said I love you to me! Rich was known to all the kids for his gruff sense of humor and his mini shenanigans.
He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid gun collector and a member of the NRA. He also loved to work his farm and ride his Harley Davidson after his retirement from the federal prison in Terre Haute, where he leaves behind some of his fondest memories with some of his best friends and coworkers. He was a member of the American Society of power engineers Inc. He was an Indiana Freemason West Terre Haute Lodge 687. He was a lifetime member of the Nevins Township FACT in Fontanet In. Of which he was a very proud member of his lifetime membership card, gifted to him by his dear friend Myrt. He was a member of the Rosedale American Legion Post 290. He spent a lot of good times there celebrating with his many fellow veterans. His friendships there were very dear to him.
He loved more than anything he ever done or accomplished in his life being a United States Marine. He said that is the, “highest earthly honor that I earned is the title United States Marine”

Rich was a man of a very strong faith and he believed wholeheartedly that he was going to heaven. You may know him as a gruff man who like to drink a little and cuss a lot, but you should never underestimate his love for the Lord.
