Bettie Lou (Cottom) Smythe

Bettie Lou Smythe, 91, Of Terre Haute, passed away January 11, 2020 in Harrison’s Crossing Health Campus.  She was born December 6, 1928 to Floyd E. Cottom and Ethel V. Hoff Cottom. Bettie loved to read especially mysteries, adventures, and wildlife books.  She enjoyed watching nature through her bay windows at home.  She would watch turkeys, deer, rabbits, birds and squirrels frolicking in her park like back yard. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Clarence L Smythe Jr., brother, Charles K. Cottom, infant sister, Marjorie Ruth Cottom, and a niece, Sandra Miles. 

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Harmon (Charles), grandson, Robert K. Harmon (Jodi), great granddaughter, Phoenix C. Shepherd (Ray) and great grandson, Alexander F. Harmon. Also surviving are nephew, James Cottom (Patty) and niece, Mary Ann Schnake (Don) several cousins and her beloved dog, Mikki.

Family and friends are welcome to join for graveside services on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1 pm in Oak Hill Cemetery.
