Betty Lorraine Hooker Ellinger, 93, was called home on April 29, 2025. She was born on September11, 1931 to George Washington Milton Hooker and Nora Ester Ella Lawrence Brown Hooker. She married the love of her life Charles “Charlie” William Ellinger Sr on January 10, 1947.
In the beginning of life Betty showed everyone how strong of a person she would become. She was born with Polio and caught scarlet fever which caused her not to walk until the age of 11. That didn’t slow her down. She began working at the age of 14 at the Mushroom Factory in West Terre Haute. At age 15 she worked at Mel’s Diner on Wabash as a server, then Davis Gardens as a florist in the late 40’s. Betty took time off to be a homemaker and mother to her 10 children. She returned to work as a cook at Wallace Nursing home, then at the County Home as a laundry aide until she retired.
Betty enjoyed going to yard sales, Sunday bingo, listening to oldies, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She could always look forward to summertime and a house full of grandkids. She enjoyed having her special time with her great granddaughter Karsyn Sue and her after school buddy, her grandson Donald “Monkey” Price.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 15 brothers and sisters; her husband Charlie and her children Edith Jenkins, Sharon Ellinger, Charles “Pune” Ellinger Jr, Linda Southard and Mark Ellinger. Grandkids Joseph “Joey” Ellinger, Steven Anstead and Kathy A Jenkins Melvin.
She is survived by her daughters Becky McCurry, Ella Lowe, Penny Bauer, Robin Rasor and Bertie Budd (Harlan); 28 grandkids; 54 great grandkids and 22 great great grandkids.
The Family would like to thank her grand daughters Brenda Eisman, Bobbie Sue Wagle, and Kimberly Wheat for staying by her side.
