Byron Eggemeyer
September 3, 1933 – December 27, 2020
Terre Haute, IN – Byron Eggemeyer, 87, of Terre Haute, died of COVID-19 on Sunday, December 27, 2020, while in residence at Cobblestone Crossing Health Campus. Byron was born on September 3, 1933 in Evansville, Il, a son of Alfred Harold Eggemeyer and Lena Brase. He married Barbara Mae Bales on July 5, 1958, and she precedes him in death.
Byron is also preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters: Victor Eggemeyer, Eugene Eggemeyer, Opal Kellum, Glenn Eggemeyer, Delbert Eggemeyer, June Moll, Lena Eggemeyer, Norman Eggemeyer, and Kendall Eggemeyer.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Weeks and husband Edgar of Terre Haute, IN; two granddaughters, Christina Weeks and husband Chav Jimenez and Stephanie Weeks Hopkins; two great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Mike Eggemeyer, Dixie Lee Eggemeyer, Rosemary Reudelhuber, Rudiger Eggemeyer, Christina Eggemeyer, Patricia Thronburger, Glenn Eggemeyer Jr, Debbie Eggemeyer, Bruce Eggemeyer, Barbara Marlin, Joyce Gross, Annette Cox, Norma Jean Bowes, Tamara Henderson, Christine Dodd, Micki Thompson, Jodie Craine, Ericka Eggemeyer, Rana Jones , Mark Highland, Neal Highland, and Jill Deutsch.
Byron was an Aerospace Engineer. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1993. He received an A.A. in Aviation Tech. from the University of Illinois in 1958, a B.A. in Industrial Ed. from University of Illinois in 1972, and a M.S. in Sci Teaching from Governor’s State University in 1977. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
Mr. Eggemeyer was a charter member of the First Unitarian Church of Richardson, Texas. He was a veteran of the Army Corps of Engineers, 1953-1955. Byron was interested in mechanics, science, and electronics, and enjoyed tinkering. He exceled at everything from repairing household electronics to designing and building houses. Byron also enjoyed traveling. Byron’s grandchildren affectionately called him “Boppie”; he was a dedicated father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A virtual visitation for family and friends will be held on December 31, 2020 from 2:30-4:30 PM. There will be a private burial ceremony at a later date.
