Cathy Ann (Whitaker) Lee

Cathy Whitaker Lee, 70, grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was the daughter of Max and Ada Jean Whitaker. She is survived by her husband; Rick Lee, Daughters; Chastidy Large and Carley Chumley (Jim), Stepdaughter; Leslie (Ben), Stepson; Chris (Rebecca), Sister; Vonda Whitaker Monts, Grandchildren; Derrik, Meghan, Kiersten , Layke , Cainan, Gabe, Skylar, Gavin, Abby, Benji, Maci, Leila and Taye. Great Grandchildren; Kimis, Scarlett, Fynn, Everett, Raegan, and a baby girl arriving in April, Nephew; Ben Monts, Niece; Annalee Brown; great niece Amani and special transplant sister, Sandie Dunn. 

Cathy lived in Terre Haute before moving to Avon 3 years ago, to live the “city life” where she enjoyed all the restaurants and shopping. 

Ten years ago, Cathy was given the ultimate gift - the gift of life. She received a double lung transplant from a young donor. Our family never took that gift for granted. In her "bonus" 10 years post-transplant, she was able to travel to Arizona, Las Vegas, Iowa, California, Texas, and Florida.

Cathy was "Mawmaw" to all the kids in her life. Her greatest joy was her grandkids. She truly lived life through the love and support of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mawmaw's favorite sayings were “Grandkids Rule" and “Love You More”.  Cathy loved flowers, listening to birds sing, playing card games with her family, her Maltese Lucie, and Angel Food cake. She danced, and laughed, and loved. She was sassy and caring and funny. She showed strength through bladder cancer, a rare blood reaction from chemotherapy, and kidney failure. She has been a warrior through it all. We will miss her every day.

Cathy's family would like to thank her physicians, nurses, transplant team, and everyone involved in her care, for working tirelessly over the last 10 years to ensure that she was able to enjoy all the beauties of life. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, specifically to Dr. Roe (transplant), Dr. Wozniak (transplant), Dr. Gutteridge (transplant) and Dr. Salous( oncology). We are overwhelmed with gratitude to these doctors for allowing us more time with our Mawmaw.

A celebration of life will be held on June 14th. The location will be announced at a later date.
