Charles James “Jim” Spence, 82, passed away at his daughter’s residence surrounded by family that loved him, after a battle with skin cancer. Born November 5th, 1938 in Terre Haute to Charles and Elizabeth. He was a 1956 graduate of Otter Creek High School, where he played varsity basketball, ran track, and was a class treasurer. He also enlisted in the Army reserves, and was a military police officer. He retired after 35+ years from Anaconda Aluminum/Alcan. He also helped run the family business “C” Jim Spence Fuel Oil Company. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Morris, and together they purchased “Ebonyhill Farm.” He spent his life breeding and raising Angus cattle, putting up hay, and tending to the farm. He never hesitated to help a person in need, whether it be hauling, loaning equipment, or just lending a hand. He also enjoyed sports, especially basketball, eating out at restaurants, and watching movies. He was a member of the American Angus Association, and the Putnam County Coin Club. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jack and Jill Lane, also Joe Lane who all loved and cared for him throughout his journey, daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Steve Snow, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and extended family, and his cat “Buddy.” Special friends surviving; Tina Regester, Francis Debord, LeRoy Manuel, and Angie Kleinhen. Special thanks to Intrepid Hospice, Doctor Ruiz, Doctor Haerr, Doctor G. Kunapareddy, the Hux Cancer Center, 3rd floor at Union Hospital, Harrison Crossing, and Springhill Village.
