Cheryl Darlene McDurmon, 72, of Terre Haute, passed away on January 24, 2025, surrounded by family after her courageous battle with cancer. She was greeted in heaven by her loving husband, Lester McDurmon, alongside a welcoming committee of family and friends. She was known to many as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, she will be missed and fondly remembered. Cheryl was born on September 25, 1952, to Warren and Lorraine Wigger in Chicago, IL, both of which preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Lester McDurmon, in 1971, to whom she remained committed to, even after death separated them on August 1, 2006. They raised three children and created a beautiful life together filled with unconditional love, setting an example and leaving a legacy for generations to come. Cheryl was a beaming light dedicated to family, friends and helping others. She was a nurturer at heart and saw the beauty in everything. Her love of life spilled over into everything she did and everyone she encountered. She was never defined by life circumstances, but instead by her love for God, family and friends. Cheryl’s talents were as broad as the love in her heart. She was a self-taught artist with an amazing gift that crossed over multiple art mediums and loved getting her hands dirty in nature. Spending time in God’s word, gardening, reading, loving and nurturing animals, collecting unique nicknacks, spending time with friends and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy. Her family was at the center of her world where she could be found supporting and immersing herself in their interests and passions as well. Cheryl made her mark on those she encountered with her loving and genuine heart. She is survived by her children, Theresa (Mark) Gamble of Marshall, IL, Lisa (Cory) Robinson of Lebanon, IN, Raymond McDurmon (Tiffany Hunter) of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren Katelyn Youngblood (Fiancé, Nathan Cole), Cody Gamble, Kelsee Robinson (Fiancé, Austin Wright), Riley McDurmon, Trey McDurmon; great-grandchildren Strider Youngblood, Fletcher Cole; sisters Donna Dawn, Desiree (Mark) Wallner, Candice Weyand; many nieces and nephews as well as dear friends that were also family to her. Visitation will be held at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804, on February 7, 2025, from 11:00am to1:00pm EST with services following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you support causes near and dear to Cheryl in her honor, such as the Ronald McDonald House. They will have donation envelopes available at the visitation for a family dear to Cheryl, also experiencing an unexpected medical emergency. Expressions of sympathy are greatly appreciated in any way you choose.
