Clinton (Jerry) Snodgrass Obituary

Clinton (Jerry) Snodgrass, 84, of Terre Haute, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Union Hospital.
He was born February 5, 1938 to Clinton and Geneva (Robinson) Snodgrass. Jerry was a 1956 graduate of Newport High School. He retired from Boilermakers Union Local 374 after 45 years.
Jerry played baseball, basketball and golf. He tried out for the Chicago White Sox, he made the team but was not eligible because he was too old to play at 24. Jerry was a fierce competitor when you stepped on a baseball field, basketball court and golf course with him. When his opponent stepped up, they had better have brought their A game. It didn't matter whether he was a coach, pro basketball player or anybody. Jerry always looked forward to play in choose-up games. Some even called him captain.
Jerry joined the Shriners to be a clown so he could bring a smile to a lot of sick kids. He provided Shriner circus tickets to kindergarten kids at Newport Elementary School for many years. There was a home for a lot of kids that did not have families to provide Christmas presents. Jerry and several friends decided to make sure all the kids had several gifts. A very proud moment is when his children were born, Debra and Michael. He was overjoyed when his son-in-law David played golf with him. Another great moment is when his grandson Trevor became fourth-generation Boilermaker. Jerry leaves behind a great legacy to all who knew him. He was a mentor to a lot of people.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart Neoma (Sis) Gaines. She passed away October 26, 2017 after 60 years of marriage.
He is survived by his daughter Debi (David) Monroney; nephew Jerry West; grandson Trevor (Chelsea) Monroney; granddaughter Nicole Snodgrass; two great-grandsons Kaiden and Jaxson; one great-granddaughter Regan; sister-in-law Linda (Bill) Potter; and many other relatives and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, wife Sis, son Mike, grandson Nicholas, sister Pat and nephew Danny, a special golf buddy Benny and a special friend C.G. Thomas.
