Edwin R. “Bill” Miller, Sr., of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 in his residence surrounded by his family. Bill was born in Mannington, WV on April 14, 1930 to Raymond Wright and Hattie Hoy and later adopted by his step father, Albert Miller. Bill was a member of New Life Fellowship Church and a U.S. Navy Veteran, participating in the Inchon Invasion during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he served on the USS LSM 125. He was a lifetime member of the Clay City VFW. He was retired from Alcan, formerly Anaconda in Terre Haute, while there he served on the Alcan Volunteer Fire Department. Bill was a recycler of just about everything and hated to see anything go to waste. He enjoyed gardening, remodeling and helping family, friends and neighbors repair their homes and cars. He enjoyed traveling with his family. Bill was a true patriot and a contributing member to the Navy Memorial in Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Edna Zorko and Mary Fillmore. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Myrtle Vandergrift, married June 12, 1954. He is survived by one son, Edwin “Ed” Miller Jr., (Debbie) of Terre Haute, he is survived by four daughters; Brenda Green (Rod) of Lancaster, OH, Debbie Rightsell (Mike) of Terre Haute, Beverly Miller of Hopkinsville, KY., and Angie Treadway (Bill) of Terre Haute. He is survived by grandchildren; Carrie Woody (Erin), Jennie Scott, Andrea Hoopingarner (Joe), Crystal Brooks, David Green, Braden Green, Luke Treadway, Ethan Treadway, Blaine Treadway, Heath Treadway and Barrett Treadway. He is survived by great grandchildren; Michala Stewart, Payton Stewart, Caiel Woody, Rebecca Woody, Kaylee Hoopingarner, Allison Hoopingarner, Rachel Hoopingarner, Aaliyah Brooks, Rayshawn Brooks, Terrence Brooks and Keyannah Brooks, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. New Life Fellowship Church, 7849 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803. Visitation will be on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 noon until service time.
Pastor Jeffrey Harpole will be officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Clay City VFW will conduct Military Graveside Services. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804 was entrusted with arrangements.
