Ellis Arlin Kerr Jr., 75, of Terre Haute, passed away Sunday August 18, 2024, in Union Hospital surrounded by his family. Arlin was born April 1, 1949, in Hot Springs, AR, to Ellis Arlin Kerr Sr. and Willa May Toney Kerr. He attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and graduated from Xenia High School, as well as Central Junior High School in Xenia, OH. He formed a special bond with a group of friends while attending Central Junior High, relationships that endure to this day. Arlin worked in the restaurant hospitality industry most of his life. He retired from Sodexo as Head of Concessions, spending most of his career with Sodexo at Indiana State University. Arlin was a mentor to the people he worked with at Indiana State, always creating a family environment, including hosting an annual “BTO” Bartenders Campout to show his appreciation. In his early career, he lived and worked in the Newport Beach, CA, area selling commercial sprinkler & irrigation systems. He often referred to himself as a traveling salesman, allowing him to see the amazing places across the western US. Arlin lived in many places during his lifetime including Indiana, Ohio, Colorado, Tennessee and California. He ran the Hoosier Night Club, enjoyed fishing, bowling, bicycling and most of all, camping and travelling with his wife, Michelle. In recent years, Arlin and Michelle enjoyed epic adventures in their camper van to the Smoky Mountains, Florida, Colorado, Arizona and California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donna J. Osborne. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Kerr, the love of his life that he married in Cades Cove Methodist Church in the Smoky Mountains. He is survived by a sister, Patty Kerr Fisher (Mark) of Avon and a sister-in-law, Nicole Turley (Eric) of Terre Haute. Also, nieces and nephews, Michele Steffe (Courtney Thomas), Tim Osborne (Isabel), Christy Kaczorowski (Ryan), Anthony Turley, Andriana Lehman, Maykala and Angela Turley, as well as great niece and nephew, Kylie and Kevin Osborne. Services will be on Saturday August 24, 2024, at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 3050 East Davis, Terre Haute, IN. 47802 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Pastor Dennis Ticen and Pastor Rick Swan will be officiating. Greiner Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
