Freida L Nelson

Freida L. Nelson passed away peacefully at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care on October 8, 2025,
due to a fall that took place on September 30th . Freida was born on August 4, 1932 in Terre Haute,
Indiana, and was proud to say she lived in Terre Haute and Riley her entire life.
Freida was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, who passed January 13, 2015; a son, Kevin
(January 25, 2025); her mother and father, Fred and Helen Monroney; and brother, James Monroney.
Freida was a faithful woman and a friend to many from her beginning at Dean Avenue Christian
Church to Union Christian Church. She worked part-time at Hallmark for 25 years. She was “famous
or infamous” for her sassy wit!
Freida is survived by her children: daughter, Polly (Steve) Jones; son, Brad Nelson; and son, Roger
(Kristi) Nelson; brother, Harold (Betty); grandchildren, Madeline (Kevin), Luke (Makeilah), Ruby
(Danny), Kyleigh, and Mark; great grandchildren Ellis, Nathan, and one more on the way; and several
nieces and nephews.
The family is extremely thankful for the comfort care provided at the Gibson Family Center for
Hospice. It is a place full of love. Also a special thank you to The Commons at Honey Creek where
Freida was living. It’s not possible to name all of the people there, including the residents who became
a second family to Freida. An extra hug to her friend, Alice Ann. They were friends and neighbors on
SR 46 and the friendship continued at The Commons.
In keeping with Freida’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. Greiner Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. There will be a private family burial at Highland Cemetery.
