Garry Burris Obituary

Garry Dean Burris, 78, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away on October 30, 2024. He was born on January 31, 1946, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Delbert Burris and Jeanette Ellen (Smith) Matney. Garry was a United States Veteran. He honorably served in four military branches, including the United States Navy, United States Army, United States Air Force, and the Indiana Air National Guard. He was proud to serve on the Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42 from 1963-1966. Garry was a member of New Life Fellowship.  He also holds a lifetime membership with VFW #972. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, locally in Terre Haute, Indiana, for 23 years as a Plumber. After retirement, Garry went on to work at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. There, he managed and helped maintain the cemetery grounds for 13 years. He built relationships with families and proudly kept the cemetery maintained that was dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Carolyn Louise (Agan) Burris. She passed away on February 20, 2024. He met her at their church, as she was a singer. They married on August 19, 1967, and shared fifty-six ½ years together before her passing. Garry was also preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Larry Burris. Garry leaves behind his two loving children Angela Burris and Aaron Burris (Ruby); grandchildren Skyler Burris (Dominic and Aubree), Brayden Burris, and Colten Burris; great grandchild Thalia Faye Burris; brother Corban Dell Matney; and sister Tina. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 11:00a.m. at New Life Fellowship, 7849 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, Indiana 47803. Pastor Jeffrey Harpole will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, from 9:00a.m. until service time.
