Georgia McIntyre Obituary

Georgia Ann Jenkins McIntyre passed from this earth to her heavenly home on September 10, 2024, after a very brief illness.  She enjoyed 83 years of life.  She was a lifelong resident of the 12 Points area of Terre Haute.  Georgia was a “Garfield girl” and maintained contact with many friends from her high school years.  She grew up in the Maple Avenue United Methodist Church and raised her girls there.  Georgia was born to Roy and Jane Jenkins on April 2, 1941.  They have preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Robert, and her first husband, James Kellams, the father of her two daughters.  Her son-in-law, John Plasse, recently joined the ranks of previously deceased, as well.  Surviving is her husband of 37 years, Jerry McIntyre; daughters, Julie Plasse, and Jennifer (Mark) Boyll; bonus daughters, Melinda (Leo), Melanie (Jeremy); and a bonus son, Mark.  Grandchildren surviving are Ryan Plasse, Bryttany (Jeremy) Dunkley, Dylaney Plasse, Jaden (Sarah) Brown, Kyleigh (Trevor) Shell, Kaleigh (Corey) Riley, Justin (Tiffany) Adams, Cameron (Becca) Adams, and Tyler Adams. There are also 10 great-grandchildren in the next generation.

Georgia taught kindergarten in the Vigo County School Corporation for 20 years. She retired in 1998. She still would recognize students from those early years and they would always remember her.  Next to her family, her students were the most important people, then and now. She was always one to support the underdog or disadvantaged. She was never limited by the school boundaries or the school day when a youngster needed help or an advocate. Neglectful or irresponsible parents beware.

There will be visitation at the Greiner Funeral Home on Friday, September 20, 2024, (Georgia and Jerry’s 37th wedding anniversary), from 5:00pm-7:00pm. There will be visitation at Kingsley U.M.C. (Sullivan County) on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11:00am-12:00pm, with a memorial service to follow.  Reverend Julie Puttman will officiate.  Her earthly remains have been cremated…ashes to ashes, dust to dust…and will reside in the mausoleum at Roselawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be directed to either of the aforementioned churches or the Gibson Family Hospice.
