Jack Compton Obituary

Jack Aaron Compton, 97, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away May 21, 2019.  He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 17, 1921 to George and Fannie (Brooks) Compton.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Army. After serving his country, he began working with his brother in the garment industry at Fashion Cleaner in New York City. 3 years later he became Manager at Putnam Day Cleaner in Brooklyn, and then went on to run his own business, Jack Compton Cleaners, for over 4 years. He transitioned into a full-time sales role selling insurance, and did so for the remainder of his career.

Jack was a faithful Christian. He spent many years sending anonymous envelopes, containing tracts that explained his faith, to random homes throughout Terre Haute. He was still personally mailing those until a few weeks before his passing. Through the years, he mailed over 11,000 envelopes to residents in Terre Haute.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen June (Chomiak) Compton; children Richard S Compton, Ronald Compton, and Carole June Ford; brothers Perry Compton, Ray Compton, Chester Compton, Harold Compton, Spencer Compton, and Melvin Compton; sisters Lucy Compton, Emma Walden, Livina Compton, and Pearl East.  He is survived by his grandchildren: Teresa Rich, Nathan Archer, Amy Hall, Matthew Ford, John Ford, Ann Ford, and Ben Ford; and great grandchildren Kelsey Rich, Stephany Marlow, Shelby Marlow, Hunter Marshall, Katelyn Marshall, Marilyn Ford, and Adam Hall.
