He was born on October 3, 1937, in Terre Haute to William E. Long and Mildred (Douglas) Long. A lifelong resident of the community, Jerry was always the life of the party who never met a stranger. He was known for his warmth, kindness, sense of humor, and deep love of people—especially his family.
Jerry was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 65 years, Suzanne (LaFollette) Long, whom he often referred to as his greatest treasure. Together, they raised a loving family and built a life filled with cherished memories.
He is survived by his children, Jayne Gaddis and Chris Long (Susan); his daughter-in-law, Sena Long; grandchildren Jeremy Long (Kathleen), Jenna Jolley (Michael), Jaylan Long, Courtney Lancaster (Christopher), Carson Spikes (Trent), Cameron Long, and Chelsea Gaddis. His 4 great-grandchildren Carter, Mackenzie, Luke, and Davis. He also leaves behind his sister, Phyllis Loveless. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeff Long.
Jerry retired from Dawn Foods as a bakery field technician and spent his time as a proud member of the Elks and Jaycees. A fan of life’s simple pleasures, he valued lifelong friendships and sport as an avid golfer. More than anything, he loved spending time with others—his friends, his community, and most of all, his loved ones.
