Jessie Elwood Hollis, 76, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away September 6, 2021. He was born in Houston, Texas to James “ Red” L. Hollis and Lillian L. (Kellum) Hollis on July 23, 1945. Jessie served in the United States Army. He held membership with the American Legion. Jessie worked for 40 years with what is formerly Southern Pacific Railroad beginning on June 17, 1968, that merged with Union Pacific. He worked various clerical jobs in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and Houston’s main office and Strang with Union Pacific and Englewood Intermodal where he retired in 2008. He enjoyed gardening, lawn work, caning vegetables and fruit that he harvested, and Blue Grass music. Most of all Jessie loved all his family, and spending time with them. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Catherine (Kidwell-Pickett) Hollis “Cathy”; children Tony Willis, Frank Shafer Jr., Jessie E. Hollis Jr. (Julie), Anthony D. Hollis (Waynette), and Starla Brown (Chuck Riggs); 21 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren and one on the way; and brothers Douglas D. Hollis (Beverly) and Wayne Hollis (Janice).Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Sisters, Shirley Reid, Nelda Burton, Eloise “Pickles” Richardson. Brother Jamie Hollis and Brother in Law Floyd “Hooter” Reid. He was very proud to have found ancestors in Parke County, Indiana in Hocker Cemetery and more relatives in Sullivan, Mississippi. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 2021, in Greiner Funeral Home, at 6:00p.m. Visitation will be from 4:00p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Crockett, Texas at a family cemetery. Funeral services will be at Callaway Alley Funeral Home there on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
