Johnny R Childress

Johnny R. Childress, 71, passed away the morning of August 27, 2024 surrounded by family. He was born on August 9, 1953 to James Moses and Nellie Mae (Madden) Childress. He was an accomplished carpenter for Steve Bunten Construction for many years. 

Johnny is survived by his sister, Patricia Frazier, sister-in-laws, Barbara Childress and Candice Childress; mother of his children, Janice (Simmerman) Lents; children, Jennifer (Alan) Walters, John (Amanda) Childress, Byron Holley, and Samantha Holley; grandchildren, Mariah (Aiden) Hall, Katie (Cory) Navel, Gage Lehman, Emily Childress, and Kamrin Holley; great-grandchildren, Issac Hall, Grimm Lehman, and Wyatt Navel; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherrie (Walton) Childress, his parents, and siblings, Carolyn (Ann) Griswold, James (G) Childress, Wayne (Bud) Childress, and Tommy Childress. 

Johnny had resided at Majestic Care of Terre Haute (formerly Meadows Manor North) for the past 5 years where he was loved and spoiled by many nurses and staff members. His family is extremely thankful for the wonderful care and support he received while there. Johnny will be cremated per his wishes and a private burial in his hometown of Stilesville, IN will be scheduled for a later date.
