Joseph Thomas Brown has passed away on the afternoon of Sept 9, 2023, at
home surrounded by his loved ones. He died of natural causes, while in hospice
care. Joseph was born Jan 7, 1937, to Bert Brown Sr. and Blanche Brown (nee
Sykes) in Hillsdale, IN. Joseph spent most of his life living in the Terre Haute
and Clinton, IN area. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1955. As a
teenager, he was active in school sports. In the early seventies, he took up the
sport of golf, which he enjoyed until around 2019, when his knees started to
restrict his mobility. He was also a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Joseph served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959, after which,
he was honorably discharged. He trained and served as a jet engine mechanic
on fighter-interceptor airplanes. He was stationed in Wisconsin and
Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Canada.
After his stint in the Air Force, he began employment at the CBS Records
pressing plant in 1960. Joseph worked at the Terre Haute plant until the presses
were shutdown in about 1983. But about six months later, CBS came calling to
rehire him for the Carrollton, GA pressing plant. Unfortunately, he also got to see
the record presses get shutdown in Georgia, but this time in the early 1990’s.
After that closure, Joseph and family moved back to the Terre Haute area,
where he worked at the Terre Haute Housing Authority until he retired in the
early 2000’s.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra L. Brown (nee McVey) of
over 60 years and both of his parents, Bert and Blanche. In addition, he was
also preceded in death by two of his brothers, Bert Jr. and John and three
sisters, Geraldine, Lorene and Norma. He is survived by: one brother, Charles;
two sons, Lee Brown, of Terre Haute and Matthew Brown, of Newburgh, IN; nine
grand children, Ian Shapin and Kaitlin Shapin, of Las Vegas, NV, Dalton Brown,
of Colorado Springs, CO, Nicholas Brown, of Wells, MN, Autumn Brown, Logan

and Nazryn Brown, of Colorado Springs, CO.
