Joyce W. (Chasteen) Hoare

Joyce W. Chasteen Hoare, 82, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on Sept 7, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
Joyce was born on August 29th, 1943 to Rev. John and Helen Chasteen in Columbus, Indiana.
After graduating from Shawswick High School in Lawrence County, she went on to study business at Porter College on the circle in downtown Indianapolis.
Joyce was a gifted typist and went on to work as a medical transcriptionist for many years. Later in life, along with her husband, she ran a FedEx Ground delivery business.
Among her hobbies, Joyce was a gifted organist. She loved playing many songs and especially loved being accompanied by Hermie, their Bichon Frise. She enjoyed cooking for everyone. Christmas and birthdays were celebrated with her wonderful Chex mix, Seven Layer cookies, Turtle Cake and many more.
Joyce met the love of her life, Gary K. Hoare, in December of 1977 on a blind date set up by friends. They were married May 12th, 1978 and began an adventure of blending their families and lives for over 47 years.
She is survived by her husband, Gary, and children John James, of Newport, VA, Jeana Wellman (Glen), of Saline City, IN, Janeece James of Brazil, IN and Matthew Hoare (Shannon) of Shelburn, IN, along with 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters Becca (Marshall) Parks and Gail Culbertson of Terre Haute, IN along with several much loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 3201 McKeen St, Terre Haute Indiana 47803 on September 11,  2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on September 12, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm followed by Funeral service at 1:00 pm with burial at Bethesda Cemetery West Terre Haute, Indiana. Greiner Funeral Home was entrusted with local arrangements,
