Larry Porter Obituary

Larry Eugene Porter gained his wings on January 23, 2025, peacefully at home surrounded with
family. Larry was born June 13, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Nathaniel and Ruth Lee Porter.
This is a tribute to Larry, better known as ‘Uncle Larry,’ to everyone that had love for him. He
gave his life to God at an early age and belonged to Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. Larry graduated
from Gerstmeyer High School and attended Indiana Business College in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Larry respectably served in the United States Navy then went on to pursue a career at Pillsbury
Co. in Terre Haute, Indiana where he would retire in 1992.
On April 25, 1970, Larry E. Porter and Margistine V. Hutchinson married in Danville, Illinois
and has since shared a lifetime and two children together. Larry leaves behind to honor his
memory his only son, Shawn Porter (Christina Logan) and Taniya Porter. Grandchildren Alissiya
Porter (Stephen Jr.), Keirra (Dorian) Hutchinson, Nakyla Porter, Janell Porter. Great
Grandchildren Kemari, Stephen III, Makhian, Armane, Yamira Hall, Kairo, Danaerys, Kassius,
Dayannis Hutchinson, Xalonni Porter, Aviyah, Azelyah, Domonique Jr. Riley.
Larry and Margistine shared unwavering support to on another for 54 years. He was a devoted
husband, father, and grandfather who overcame challenges and instilled values in his children.
His family was his pride and joy and his greatest role in his life was being a PawPaw to his
babies. Larry called himself ‘The Grizz’ but his four granddaughters knew he was the BIGGEST
teddy bear. He showed unconditional love to his family and was a hard-working man.
He valued family and was dedicated to his wife, his love for his grandchildren, and enjoyment of
life’s simple pleasures, like fishing. Larry was always a person you could count on and didn’t
hesitate to help anyone in need. Larry will be dearly missed by family and friends. Larry was
known for his humor, unique laugh, zest for life, and being the life of the party. He balanced a
successful career, commitment to God, all while cherishing time with his large family. His legacy
lives on through generations who will remember his kindness and love for family and friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his great granddaughter Amathyst Mae Riley, In-Laws Mr. L.T. and
Leola Hutcherson, Brother Albert Porter, Chauncey Porter, and Douglas Porter, Sisters Mary
Porter Suggs, Docial Porter Wimberly, Ella Marie Porter Vance, and Violet Louise Porter Jones.
Your memory will forever live on through the countless lives you touched and the lessons you
taught us. Thank you for being the best husband, father, and grandfather any of us could have
asked for. We Love You, and we will continue to make you proud!
Rest In Peace.
