Linda Lou (McCullough) Gibson
Linda Lou Gibson, 76, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 after a brief illness. Linda was born in her parent’s home in rural Clay County, Indiana in the community of Ashboro on September 23, 1948 to S. Mace McCullough and Clara (Schafer) McCullough. She grew up on her parents farm near Farmersburg, Indiana, attended Farmersburg Elementary School and graduated from North Central High School in 1966. During her school years she was an active 4-H member.
Following graduation she attended Indiana State University, majoring in music and elementary education, earning her bachelors degree in 1970. She went on to earn her Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 1972. She began her teaching career in the towns of Pleasantville and Shelburn, Indiana. Her teaching career continued in Christian Education and she co-founded with her husband the Ohio County Christian Academy in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, and Heritage Christian School in Olney, Illinois. For nine years she was a member of the adjunct faculty of Indiana’s Oakland City University, teaching math.
Along with her teaching career, her real love was her Lord and her family. Linda married James Gibson on December 24, 1972 and became a beloved pastor’s wife and partner in ministry for over fifty-two years. She was a cherished mother to Mark Gibson (Amy), to Peter Gibson (MaryJune) and to Paul Gibson (Sarah). She not only watched and nurtured her children and grandchildren, she lovingly played with them. Her ministry focus as a
pastor’s wife was music, singing and accompanying congregations and choirs at the piano. She also had a ministry focus on teaching children in Sunday school, junior church and vacation Bible schools. Linda conducted Joy Bible Clubs for many years at DeVaney Elementary School and a year each at Sugar Grove and Meadows Elementary Schools all located in Terre Haute, Indiana. During various times she also hosted home Good News Bible Clubs. In more recent years she lead a neighborhood women’s Bible study. Linda also greatly loved flowers and tending to the landscaped areas of their Terre Haute home.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, their three sons, and by their eight grandchildren, Caleb, Daniel, Joanna, Leah, Meredith, Shad, Tristan, and Vivienne. She is also survived by one brother, W. Ray McCullough (Susie), and one sister, Debbie McCullough Davis (Herald). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She is also survived by hundreds of children who were touched by her teaching ministry. and by countless women whose lives were impacted by her example as a godly Christian woman. Many mothers and grandmothers survive for whom she is regarded as a role model of a nurturing, caring mother and grandmother.
Memorial services will be held at Bible Baptist Church in Terre Haute on Thursday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Jeremy Coombes and Kevin Swarga officiating. Burial is to follow at Westlawn Cemetery south of Farmersburg. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bible Baptist Academy Scholarship Fund.
