Loretta Hawkins Obituary

Loretta Mae Hawkins, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2023, due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born in Clinton, Indiana to Marion and Mamie Kerr.

She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord. She always enjoyed doting on her family, especially her grandson, Cody, who was the light of her life.  She shared a wonderful relationship with her daughter-in-law, Pam, who proceeded her in death.

For many years Loretta worked for the Penn Central railroad and from there she went on to enjoy a long career at General Housewares.

Loretta married Clyde James Hawkins in 1955 and they remained married until his death in 2021. Loretta and Clyde enjoyed playing poker and euchre and forged many lasting friendships. As the years passed she adopted bingo as her game of choice. And it was there that she forged relationships with numerous new friends.

Loretta’s love of animals was a shining example to us all. Her home was always full of dogs and cats and countless others that she supported with her donations for decades.

She is survived by her daughter, Traci Sutton; son, Reggie McConnell; and grandson Cody Sutton (Sarah). As per Loretta’s request, her body is to be cremated and her ashes interred with her husbands, at Roselawn cemetery.

The family would like to thank her caregivers Nancy Giles, Laura Burnett, Karissa, Southern Care Hospice and the Gibson Family Center for Hospice care.  A special thank you to Dr. Antwan Mardini, Kathy, and his staff for the wonderful care they gave to her for so many years.
