Margaret M. Haas, 91, of Terre Haute, passed peacefully Thursday, May 29, 2025, at
her home with family by her side. Margaret was born April 9, 1934, in rural Vigo County
to Ralph and Myrtle Lowe. She lived most of her life in Riley until moving to Terre Haute
in 1994. Margaret retired from ISU in 1996 after 33 years of service in Accounts
Payables in the Business Office.
She had a passion for sewing, making much of her own clothing, along with clothing for
her children and many local organizations. She was a past Worthy Matron with the
Order of Eastern Star Riley Chapter 22.
Margaret had a love for games especially Euchre, playing in many tournaments and
bowling for several years on ISU teams. She had a love for travel and enjoyed the
friendships she made through her journeys in her retirement to 44 states with Turner
Coaches, Inc. She was a long-term member of Riley United Methodist Church until its
closing when she then attended United Memorial in Terre Haute.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles W. Bonar and
Oliver Lynn Lowe, and one great granddaughter. She is survived by her twin daughters
Michelle (Juan) Hasenour and Monica Haas both of Terre Haute and her son Michael
(Katherine) Haas of Victoria, Texas; seven grandchildren Christina Haas, Nicole (Jon)
Bledsoe, Christopher White, and Chad White all of Terre Haute; Ben (Kylie) Douglas of
Georgia; Brandy (Jason) Gunther of Arizona; Lena (Bryan) Murphy of Texas; 12 great-
grandchildren; and 2 great-great-granddaughters; several extended family members
and friends.
Per Margaret’s wishes, graveside services will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley,
IN, Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 11AM.
