Mary Jeanette Cheatem, 100, passed away on February 23, 2020 at Meadows Manor East. She was born December 11, 1919 in Terre Haute to Walter Blake and Sylvia Anderson Blake.
Mary confessed her faith in Jesus Christ at a very early age and was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Terre Haute public schools during her youth. She graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis while living with her Aunt Helen Anderson.
Mary was united in marriage to Chester Rutledge and to this union there was a son, Donald Rutledge. She later married Sherman D. Cheatem Sr. in 1965.
Mary was a caregiver for many years, working several other jobs throughout her life. She was a loving and kind-hearted person, and she touched many lives. She loved to cook and be with family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sherman; son, Donald Rutledge; daughter, Darlene Bradley; brothers, Jimmy, Thomas and Francis Blake; and sons-in-law, Bobby Bradley, Ron Johnson and Anthony Redman.
Mary is survived by daughters, Joyce Johnson and Marlene Redman; and son, Sherman Cheatem Jr. (Barbara); daughter-in-law, Jerdean Rutledge; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a special friend, Maggie Freed.
Services for Mary will be on February 29, 2020 at Second Missionary Baptist Church at 12 pm. Visitation will be from 10 am until service time at the church on Saturday. Online condolences can be made at:
