Mary Elkins Obituary

Mary Ellen Elkins, 83, of Terre Haute, Indiana went to be with the Lord on
May 10, 2023. She was born October 31, 1939, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to William C.
and Pearl M. (Wimmer) Dubbs and attended Glenn High School. She married Alfred
V. Elkins on December 31, 1955 and had one daughter. She was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a servant’s heart and served
her church and pastor faithfully. She is survived be her daughter Pam Hoopingarner
(Dennis); two grandsons Kris Hoopingarner (Kelly) and Joe Hoopingarner (Andrea);
four great-grandchildren Mason Kinderman, Kaylee Jo Hoopingarner (fiancé Gianni
Pipes), Allison Hoopingarner, and Rachel Hoopingarner; as well as several nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years
and sisters Rosemary Dubbs, Emma Jean Deal (Richard) and Esther Modesitt
(Donald).
Mary worked at Reuben Donnelley with perfect attendance for many years.
She made many lifelong friends and loved working every day. She was a faithful
member at New Life Fellowship for 23 years. She served the work of God at the food
pantry, helping in the kitchen, Sunday school department and helping at the church
school, Life Academy, where she was “Meme” to the kids. She enjoyed traveling,
weekly family dinners, euchre with her grandsons, playing any game with her great-
granddaughters and crocheting blankets for the new babies at church. She also
loved to sing, play the piano and listen to Southern Gospel music. Her greatest joy in
life was her family and church family.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at
New Life Fellowship, 7849 Wabash Ave, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47803. Visitation will
be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Pastor Jeffrey
Harpole will officiate funeral services. Burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery.
The family has entrusted care and arrangements with Greiner Funeral Home.
